Cold, good nowhere lake

Nowhere Lake

Took the first train and skied up to nowhere lake again.  The trail was firm and fast with frost in the birch tree branches. The initial trail I took to get up into higher terrain was hacked up by skaters going in late afternoon slush. The traces of their slow-going, inelegant progress turned into giant, hard-frozen furrows that made skating difficult. Happily the trail to lake nowhere was much less traveled. Only a couple late rising hackers had been over it yesterday, leaving its glide potential intact. With the daylight savings time change I’ll now be going before work, getting good glide in the morning cold and avoiding contributing to the trail hacking problem.
