‘Everest’ conquered on rollerski

24 Sep

Article today on some rollerskiers that did the equivalent of Everest in terms of elevation gain as a team fund raiser. They were four and actually only did a quarter (2,250m) each, but that still amounts to a beefy 6% grade.

My normal 10k route only works out to a 2% average grade, but gains most of its elevation in just a couple spots. Happily those spots have good pavement which is a rarity in this country because of all the freezing and thawing in winter.

If I could find a car-free path with good pavement and a more serious climb I would be a taker. There’s at least a cycle lane up to Holmenkollen where the famous Oslo ski jump once stood (before work started to build a bigger ramp–see artist’s rendition).  I’ll look into continuing up there after my normal route to the Bogstad golf course.
