Update about rollerski trails in Oslo

1 Aug

Since the weather was finally great, I went out skating and scouting today. Here’s some updates concerning my last post about this subject:

  • Peder Ankers vei in Nordmarka (Sognsvann area, between Svartkulp and Blanksjø and beyond): this was a wash. Much rougher than I remembered it. Lots of gravel and above all an excess of road-reef (patches of skin grinding exposed sharp rock)
  • Rugdeveien – Gaustad to Sognsvann: doable but full of loose gravel so no fun at all.

On the upside I found an unexpected good spot: the waterline trail around Sognsvann. It’s got a crushed rock surface with minimal road reef. There are a lot of joggers and families with prams but it still counts as one of the best places I’ve found for off road rollerskiing with my pneumatic wheeled equipment. It’s smoother on the East side. There’s some gravel gully hazards on the Westside.
