XC Ski is Freedom

13 Jul

What I really like about XC skiing is freedom. Eliminating constraints. Body heat keeps me warm in even in light clothes, thus reducing the climate constraint. I wear a headlight which gets me past the limits imposed by darkness. The more you ski, the better your physical condition. After a certain point distance just ceases to be an issue. I even start to like seeing a steep pitch present itself ahead of me just for the joy of eating it up: gravity applies less. I wear a camelback so thirst doesn’t stop me. Bad snow isn’t a constraint: if it’s not worth skiing classic, I skate. Even the absence of snow isn’t a show stopper: I still skate–with roller skis.

And finally: no ski lifts, no lift tickets and no lines.
